Since prehistoric times nature has been serving as the basic and strongest pillar of the health care system and provide foundation and search engine for the modern/conventional system of medicine and synthetic/allopathic medicines. This revolutionary development in the field of medicines almost substituted the use of traditional medicines in most of the countries. But in the current scenario due to ever increasing cost and side effects people are moving back toward the green pharmacy. Unfortunately less attention is paid towards the Pharmacovigilance of the crude drugs/herbal raw material as well as herbal medicinal products (HMPs) as compare to the allopathic medicines that are prepared in the Pharmaceutical industries. Moreover Scientific Research that has been done in this discipline usually focused on the natural product chemistry and isolation of the lead compounds from the traditional medicines. In the current scenario modern researches have been started focusing on the pharmacological action and standardization of herbs and herbal formulations. However there is an urgent need to done innovative researches in the field of herbal pharmacotherapy, herbal biopharmaceutics (pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics), herbal toxicology, herb- herb interactions especially in case of poly herbal formulations, Herbal Bioequivalence, and other efficacy and safety related issues. This modern approach will open new horizons in the field of modern herbal pharmaceutical products development hence better and safe means of herbal pharmacotherapy. ER -
